I work from a clump of clay, which is shaped either on the pottery wheel or from a slab. After I achieve the desired form, each dish must air dry for several days and then goes through at least two high temperature firings in a kiln between 1800F and 2200F. Other steps include the application of glaze color and decal decorations. Inspired by nature My upbringing in the Black Forest region of Germany as well as my natural surroundings here in Southern California and travels all over the world have informed my work from the start. Many of my pieces include flora and fauna, reflecting my love and concern for nature and environment. I hope you enjoy my products as much as I do enjoy creating them. How it all began With the objective of becoming a painter and experimenting with other mediums, my discovery of clay happened only a few years ago. Going back to art school in my 40's, I took a ceramic class and was immediately captivated by this medium. The meditative process of shaping clay enables me to express my philosophy in transforming “simple” forms into unique functional pieces that can make everyday special. Adding, subtracting, decorating with glaze and decals: Clay affords me the use of its surface like a flat piece of canvas, but in three-dimensional form. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2012, I decided to make a career out of this newfound passion to bring joy and appreciation for handcrafted goods to customers around the world. Clay has captured my creativity to the fullest and I hope my pieces will enrich someone else's home and life. Working from my home studio and selling online enables me to take care of my family and create at the same time.
